In late 2008, recognizing the need for furniture for veterans struggling to furnish their new homes, Ken Barner began gathering furniture and storing it in his garage. When he heard about a veteran, needing furniture, he would give what he had. As more people came to know about Ken’s efforts, the furniture kept gathering, soon overflowing into his home. In 2009, commercial space was supplied rent-free.
Since 2009, over 500 veterans have received furnishings for their new places through the Veterans for Veterans furniture bank. 45 in the first two months of 2012 alone! All veterans are vetted through the Veterans Administration or another accredited organization.
All of us here at United for Change are volunteers, no one receives monetary compensation for what we do. Our rewards are seeing our veterans get a brand new start in their new homes!
